Zincing About Future Career Opportunities with Local Students
The Cathedral School of St Anne and St James’ Year 10 Work Skills Class recently joined our team for a tour of the refinery, providing a valuable and unique learning experience.
During their visit to Sun Metals, students toured our facilities and engaged with our team members, discovering the variety of roles and career paths within the zinc production industry, from engineering and logistics to environmental management.
“These visits provide students with an invaluable perspective on the diverse opportunities available to them after school,” said [Ron Lee, CEO of Sun Metals].
“We are thrilled to be a part of this initiative, which aligns with our commitment to supporting the educational and career development of young people in North Queensland.”
The Cathedral School of St Anne and St James [Pathways Manager & Careers Advisor, Katrina Wilshire] reinforced how important initiatives like this are as part of their student’s development.
“We were very impressed with the facility at Sun Metals - these visits are not just about seeing workplaces but understanding the variety of roles within them. There are many opportunities for our students here especially for those looking for employment in 2025.”
The Work Skills Class, an initiative organised by The Cathedral School of St Anne and St James, is an important step in helping students understand their future options, gain confidence, and make informed decisions about their career paths.
Sun Metals is excited to see the inspiration this program is sparking among local students and looks forward to continuing our support, with more onsite visits in the future.
